Singing with us
SUMS is a non-auditioned choir – anyone and everyone is encouraged to sing with us. Whether you have singing experience, and whether you can read sheet music, we don’t mind!
We hold weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Our rehearsals are compulsory in order to perform in our semesterly concerts. We also have a plethora of social events throughout the year, including camps, BBQs and an academic dinner.
Sadly SUMS is unable to take new members after week 4 of every semester in order to maintain our rehearsal requirements. Please get in touch with the secretary via email if you have any questions!
How to join
Simply join us at any welcome event or a rehearsal!
If you decide to stick with us, we need you to do the following three steps to ensure we have you in our records and we’re getting USU funding from your membership!
STEP 1
You will need a valid USU Membership
(free for USYD students)
STEP 2
Log into your new USU account at usu.edu.au and register for our society
you can search for ‘SUMS Choir’ then hit ‘Join’
(so that we get funding)
STEP 3
Fill out our form
(so we know that you’ll be joining us)
Membership Fees
In order to hire a professional conductor/musical director and accompanist, we require fees for membership. However we will always allow you to join a couple of rehearsals to try us out before committing to membership. In order to help us collect membership fees by rehearsal 4 of each semester, please fill out the form above by then.

Membership always lasts until the end of the year, so we have cheaper prices for membership starting in semester 2.
Welcome Events
We will be having a welcome BBQ in the first week of semester. Come join us on the afternoon of Wednesday the 26th of February at 4:30pm on Science Road for a free sausage sizzle, drink and an opportunity to make new friends right before the first rehearsal!
