Our Semester 1 Concert for 2026
Schumann’s Dichterliebe
Sydney University Musical Society (SUMS) is proud to present our upcoming concert, Dichterliebe: Songs of Love and Longing.
Join us on Saturday 30 May at 6:30pm at the beautiful Hunter Baillie Memorial Church for an evening of music that takes you on an emotional journey through love and longing.
At the heart of the programme is Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe — a song cycle that moves from the tenderness of first love to the quiet devastation of heartbreak. Presented in a special choral arrangement by Hye-Young Cho, this performance offers a rare opportunity to experience this beloved work in a new and powerful form.
The programme also features Red from Spectrum by Sally Whitwell, bringing a contemporary voice to the concert and adding vibrant contrast to the evening’s themes of love and emotion.
SUMS acknowledges and pays respect to the traditional owners of the land on which we meet (the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation). It is upon their ancestral lands that the University of Sydney is built. As we share our own knowledge, teaching, learning, and research practices within this University may we also pay respect to the knowledge embedded forever within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country.
